From afar it looks like the EVO with a larger screen but it has four physical buttons on the bottom of the screen rather than touch-sensitive ones like those on the EVO. Putting the phone in your palms, the phone feels solid and light-weight. Although there is a slight hump on the back, it fits in the pocket.

The Droid X has a 4.4” FWVGA 854 x 480-resolution screen which is super crisp and is superbly responsive to taps and touches. It also has a mirrored trim around the screen which makes the whole face of the phone extra glossy.

Running on an Android 2.1, it’s not what everyone  expected and perhaps there will be an upgrade from the original Android baby. There’s also an added feature on the navigation bar along the bottom that makes you move from one Android pane to another. Also, a Blockbuster application and a DLNA type application promises the use of an HDMI where one can access more multimedia.

The Droid X is expected to flaunt an 8-megapixel camera while recording 720p video. The not-so-amazing thing is that you need to tap it to focus and it will refocus only once you’ve managed to take a picture. It has a super stiff button which makes it hard to take pictures. With regards to its video recording, it was laggy but the playback is smooth and the recording was crispier than the EVO. But the white balance keeps on fluctuating.

The Swype keyboard is multitouch which is what we’re asking for in a phone and allows the phone to be more responsive. And talk about being responsive, this baby is the fastest Android phone there is. It has a 1GHz ARMv7 processor with an 8GB of storage space. Battery life was not tested but there was some special kind of battery management software inside the phone.

In totality, this Android phone is one promising gadget. It does have a lot of the latest features that a phone can offer and is more improved than its other counter-parts in the Android phone industry. But it does need a few finishing touches before its release date on July 19.
