Just recently, a very impressive video is going around the net showing the Earth 19 miles up in the stratosphere or simply a level that is high enough to show the curvature of the earth and the darkness of the space behind it. And what is so amazing about this video is the fact that it was only taken using an iPhone 4 owned by an average resident from Brooklyn, New York.

Luke Geissbuhler launched a balloon that was able to fly as high as 25 feet per second thus, reaching around 19 miles above the surface of the earth within just an hour. This balloon burst and revealed a package containing the iPhone and an HD camera that fell back to the ground with a parachute. This father and son tandem tracked the said package using the iPhone’s GPS transmitter and have found it in a tree located 30 miles north from where it was launched.

Geissbuhler has spent almost eight months researching and testing a way to be able to capture a video of the earth and has become successful. They have extracted the video, edited it and posted a slideshow showing the space images taken by the said iPhone to his website.

The Geissbuhlers are currently working on a “how to” guide so that other parents and kids could also try the same experiment that they did. They have also included a link to the FAA regulations for weather balloons to their site in order to prevent the would-be iPhonauts from creating hazards to aircraft.

Well, some may not believe if these images were really taken during the said experiment and if what this father and son did was actually successful. So try to visit their website and look for the images yourself and decide whether this is true or not. One thing is for sure though,  what this father and son have done together is simply amazing. is a gadgets review with pics, graphics, photographs, images, video recordings, and so on blog with users’ comments.
