There were ongoing tech gossips that Apple is coming out with a new display line featuring capacitive touchscreens over 20 inches in size. These rumors all started when Apple filed a patent on a convertible iMac with iOS integration back in August. And lately these rumors continue to swirl as some latest gossip arrives through Digitimes, a Taiwanese trade publication that has been a regular source for numerous Apple-related information.

As reported by Digitimes, Sintek Photonics, a well-known display manufacturer has reportedly shipped some samples of capacitive touchscreen panels to Apple. Apparently, Apple has plans of using these touchscreen panels for its next generation of iMac all-in-one desktop.

Today’s iMacs comes in 21.5 and 27-inch models and apparently the technology needed to build a 20-inch or larger capacitive touchscreen is quite complex and costly as well. These touch-enabled iMacs are reported to have a good vertical and horizontal viewing angle in addition to its one-glass touch panel that comes integrated with a sensor and cover glass that gives a slimmer and lighter design.

However, there is no information available yet regarding its resolution, pixel density, and actual sizes and whether it will be really coming with a touchscreen technology is still unconfirmed. Having a touchscreen desktop seems to be a good idea even though there were issues raised before regarding this.

According to Wikipedia, most designers of touchscreen-enabled systems failed to notice that it is not natural for humans to hold their arms in front of their faces making small motions – and hold that posture for too long – since it could lead to an ergonomic disaster . The side-effect called gorilla arm, wherein the arm will feel sore, cramped and oversized, occurs on long term uses. But based on the leaked document, seems like Mr. Jobs and friends had finally found a way.

All in all, it looks like Digitimes’ story is credible enough as lots of recent reports also suggest the same thing and that is Apple is on the works preparing for a touchscreen-enabled iMac. For now, all we can do is just patiently wait for more information or any announcement from the manufacturer itself. So watch out for more details.
