super mini cube: world’s tiniest (and most useless?) ipod speaker
Welcome to another edition of Cute or Stupid?, a feature that I personally don’t want to do anymore but fate seems to want me to continue, so. Here we go: up for deliberation is the Super Mini Cube, allegedly the world’s tiniest speaker. Measuring a scant 26mm (1.02 inches) on each side, the “no bulky” speaker delivers a dust-blowing 0.8 W of power. I don’t know about you but I would never associate “power” with 0.8 watts.
The super mini cube has a built-in 3.5 mm stereo jack, so all you need to do is plug it into an audio player and you and your insect friends are ready to rock out. It’s rechargeable battery lasts for up to 5 hours, which is longer than the lifespan of some insects, so I guess that’s a good thing. It only has an on/off switch, none of that fancy volume control tech. Although if it had a volume dial I bet it would be something like “0 – 0.25 – 0.5.”
I’m amazed that the Super Mini Cube didn’t fall apart while busting out Rammstein. $10 USD gets you one at USBfever. Insect friends not included. Time to vote: Cute or Stupid? I vote Stupid. For $10 more you can get a decent 2.1 set. I know that that wouldn’t be portable, but come on. Let’s have some standards. Even the PSP’s speakers are better than this one. I hope.
