Tucked away in the Thomson booth at last month’s CES were their GE branded phones, largely forgotten by most of the tech world. Heck, most conventional cordless phones have been forgotten by the tech world. And this is exactly what it is: not an Android phone, but a cordless phone that uses Google as an information service.

For all of Google’s ubiquity in the online world, I doubt that most of you have heard of their mobile service, which you can access from 800-GOOG-411. While the information the service provides isn’t as comprehensive as the Google Web site, it’s a good way to gather some quick info on the go. And it’s free.

GE has bought into the GOOG-411 concept but good, promising to deliver a dozen GE phones based on the technology, which will be available in April. As the image shows, the GOOG-411 button is displayed prominently, to the point where it might be automatically dialed when the phone is connected.

GE highlighted the $99.99 GE Premiere DECT 6.0 Phone with Home Speakerbox/Intercom (model 28821FJ3), which includes a dedicated two-way wireless intercom system plus a special portable speakerphone/room intercom unit. As the name suggests, it uses the dedicated, voice-only DECT protocol, which is designed to eliminate the interference from Wi-Fi, microwaves, and other sources of electromagnetic interference. Call-ignore, a digital answering system, message playback speed control and polyphonic ring tones round out the package, GE said. It comes with two handsets and the dedicated intercom unit.

Noted in The New York Times‘ Circuits section.
