Riding speedboat is ordinary, but riding hovercraft is an exciting adventure and could be a whole new level of experience to many riders. Rudy Heeman from from New Zealand is one of the professional hovercraft builder and rider.
He built the hovercraft purely as an 11 years long DIY project, parts were taken from other vehicles, including the handlebar from his daughters scooter. A purely hobby? You bet!
The hoverwing functions like those on a normal hovercraft, although when you hit the maximum speed of 60mph, its wings will be be extended further for it to take flight. Powered by a 1.8 liter Subaru engine, it sports removable wings and has a maximum flight weight capacity of 160kg, so we’re guessing there isn’t any room for on-board snacks. You won’t fall very far from the sky though, since it has a maximum flying height of around 3 meters.
In New Zealand, flying a hovercraft doesn’t need a pilots license, since it is basically a boat, however, it is advisable that you will still be cautious on the legal procedures of flying such a kind of machine in the country where you live.
According to little research done by CrunchGear, the hovercraft is now being auction at USD26,500.-.
Want to enjoy the flying experience using a hovercraft? Go for the auction before 13th this month, who know you might be the next one to own this 11 years DIY masterpiece?
