There is not much to say about the point and shot camera. Everyone knows one or two things about them, or even knows these cameras by hart. However, every once in a while a manufacturer decides to upload into its website, under the point and shot cameras, particularly devices that are not yet proper featured on the market. If you though Sony, you were right. All the rest of you, it’s time to get some tutoring with nowadays gadgets and manufacturers. Sony included in the “points and shot line” one strange little device called, even weirder, “Webbie HD Camera”.

Don’t get me wrong, it looks really nice, and it sounds to be useful, but what is it doing in the point and shot line? Since it is very difficult to create a new device brand, especially in this economy, with extreme amount of money directed into marketing and advertising, Sony decided to let another manufacturer do that and include the Webbie HD into the point and shot line.

This device is more an amateur camcorder with ridiculous dimensions and also capability of taking good photos. Therefore, by now all the point and shot cameras were taking pictures and they could even record movie clips, but with the Webbie HD, you record movies primarily and if you need and choose so you can take pictures. Its key features are not exactly mind blowing, because of the bad advertising, you get an “Upload your life” slogan, and that about it.

Sony hasn’t included any key features in this device’s presentation. I will however underline some key features, such as 5 megapixel camera for both still images and video record, good LCD display (although is quite small), nice featured shooting movies buttons. In terms of design, the Webbie HD is as interesting as it can get. The body is made out of a pattern plastic, which with the special colors make it look metallic. It is not the best quality work, Sony ever has done but for this price range it surely works.

The case is not glossy. Therefore, the Webbie HD is not slippery, it is not a fingerprint magnet, and depending on the color chosen it can successfully get over minor scratches. On the front cover you get Sony logo, the HD logo, and a few other inscriptions. At the bottom of the front cover going on the bottom side you get the cover fot the memory card, while on the back side you get the LCD display with a scroll (for different shooting modes), a photo buttons, a movie buttons, for way navigational pad, and another two keys. The actual camera lenses are included in a 270 degrees movable hinge, making the photo and movie experience as great as it could have. You can easily take photos of you without thinking if your head is in the shot.

When you rotate the swivel lenses the camera powers on and it is ready to either take pictures or record movies almost immediately. With a height of 103 mm (4 1/8 inches), wide of 55 mm (2 ¼ inches), deep of 24 mm (15/16 inches), the Webbie HD camera weights about 120grams (or 4.2 oz) with the battery included, making the camera ultraportable and easy to slip into any pocket.

Speaking of battery, Sony included a Lithium Ion battery which should be enough for about 100 minutes of movie recording. Sony included a multi analog audio and video output, an audio and video remote terminal, component video output and a 2.0 USB port in the High Definition camera. Even more you can choose from three different colors, Eggplant, Orange, and Silver. I guess by now you already imagine what color will improve Webbie’s design.

Sony included into this camera a 5 megapixel CMOS sensor with excellent lens features, such as the 47 mm (or 16 to 9), 57 mm (or 4 to 3), the F3.6 aperture, about four digital zoom, with a focal distance of 7.0 mm, with fixed focus. The four digital zoom will let you capture closer details, but you have to be careful because the Webbie HD lack auto focus. Also included is the 1.8 inches with 4 to 3 aspect ratio LCD display, rendering up to 230000 colors. This display might be little buy it sure provides not only good viewing angles but also excellent brightness level indoors and outdoors as well.

Thanks to the Webbie HD you will be able not only to take pictures but also to record movies in high definition MP4. By using this format, Sony is clearly trying to attract as many customers it can get, since the MP4 format is compatible not only with computers that run Windows operating system but also with Mac computers running the Mac operating system. Also MP4 is very used online, also, making the whole making movies and posting them on the web process, a lot more easy then you might think.

Because the camera offers two buttons for both still and movie buttons, the user experience will certainly be a favorite aspect of this camera. Therefore, the MPEG 4 AVC / H.264 movies can easily be watched using the NTSC / PAL output available. Even more you get three resolutions for recording videos, the high definition mode with 1440 x 1080 pixels with 30 frames per second, the 1280 x 720 pixels with 30 frames per second, and the 640 x 480 pixels with 30 frames per second.

The Webbie HD doesn’t include an onboard memory, making it mandatory to use a Memory Stick Pro Duo, up to 6 GB compatible. If you chose this value memory card, then you should now that it will last you for 340 minutes of video recording at 1440 x 1080 pixels with 30 frames per second, 510 minutes for the 1280 x 720 pixels resolution with 30 frames per second, and 990 minutes for the VGA resolution with 30 frames per second. you can easily chose form ten different scene modes such as sports, auto, backlight, low light, landscape and others.

Sony included in the retail shipping box beside the Webbie HD camera and battery pack, the audio and video connecting cable, the USB cable, one wrist wrap, the component audio and video cable, and the CD Software. Overall the Webbie HD camera is not a usual device easy to compare and judge. However, my honest opinion is that if you don’t mind the $169.99 price tag, the Webbie High Definition camera is one of the most portable devices capable of recording in two high definition modes, making it extremely attractive for the average users. is a gadgets review with pictures, graphics, photographs, images, videos, something like that blog with visitors’ comments.
